Portsmouth Marker ‘25

As part of the redevelopment of the coastline of Portsmouth and Southsea in 2024, a sculpture was commissioned to complete a set of works installed there by John Maine more than 50 years ago. The new Portsmouth Marker is different in size, form and material (the six originals were carved in Portland stone, where the new piece is in granite) but is intended as a kind of ‘cousin’, taking on the original theme and developing it. It was opened by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth in June 2025.
